At Vale Laser Clinic we’re proud to be experts in laser hair removal. We’ve even been awarded the Sunday Times best for hair removal so you can be sure we know all there is to know about getting rid of your unwanted hair. If you’re researching laser hair removal you’re not alone. This safe, effective method of hair removal is growing in popularity. It’s virtually pain free and permanently reduces growth so if you dream of removing unwanted hair for good then read on.

We get asked many questions regarding the process, so we have put together this helpful guide covering everything you need to know about our laser hair removal service.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

One of the main benefits and attractions of laser hair removal is that the hair treated is gone forever. The light energy destroys the base of the hair follicle preventing regrowth.

A short burst of light energy is delivered onto the skin by a laser or IPL (Intense Pulse Light). The melanin (colour pigment) absorbs this energy and turns it into heat. This heat destroys the germination centre in the hair follicle preventing regrowth.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Hair grows in cycles. Laser hair removal only works if the targeted hair is in its growth cycle. It is for this reason that we recommend several sessions to achieve the desired results of smooth skin with no regrowth. We recommend a course of 6 to 8 sessions which we will discuss in our free consultation.

How Long Does A Treatment Take?

It can be as quick as ten minutes for a smaller area. Up to an hour for a larger area. You will be advised of this in your free consultation.

Does It Hurt?

At most you will experience mild discomfort. We use an effective skin cooler to ensure that the warm pulses of light from the laser are comfortable for you.

Do I Need To Let My Hair Grow Before Treatment?

No, we don’t need the hair above the skin surface so you can shave or trim as often as you like. You will be asked to cut or shave the area prior to treatment. Never wax, thread or pluck as this will remove the hair from the follicle.

Can Any Colour Hair Be Treated?

Dark hair on light skin sees the best results due to the contrasting melanin. We do however offer treatments that are effective on darker skin tones and fairer hair and have specific technology within our IPL specifically for this. Due to the lack of melanin white or grey hairs don’t respond to laser hair removal.

Are There Side Effects?

As long as your treatment is conducted by trained professionals using the correct, up to date equipment, side effects will be minimal. The area that has been treated may feel a little warm for a while afterwards. This can be managed with aloe vera cream or gel. It is also advised to avoid perfume, deodorant and makeup for at least 48 hours after treatment. Protecting your treated skin from the sun is essential, sun block should be worn for at least 6 weeks.

Is It Suitable For Men And Women?

Our laser hair removal treatments are suitable for both men and women.

You can book a course of treatments where you pay for 7 and get 1 free.

Are There Any Things That May Affect The Treatment?

Having a suntan, either real or fake can affect the treatment. This is due to the melanin levels in your skin being raised. The laser treatment will be attracted to the skin rather than the hair. You can not have a tan at all at the time of treatment
